NELIA

Monday, December 21, 2009

We have already ordered the t shirts based on the sizes furnished by Lucille. As agreed the color is red with the embroidered Batch 63 logo on the left breast. Only Karias has submitted the idea for the logo which was essentially derived from the original JRI logo but with the numerals 63 on the open pages of the book.This design was also approved during the last meeting on 12Dec. I have given the design to the supplier. Each t shirt costs P300 each and we have ordered a total of 60 pcs. We have also given an advance payment of P9,000.00( 50%). I have managed to coax P4,000 from our treasurer as our funds are depleted and this is her total collections lately. I just added P5,000 temporarily to be able to meet the required 50%.

The reunion is fast approaching and with the early arrival of Pres. Mike, we can have a final meeting before that. I am appealing to everybody to give their dues to our treasurer s we have a lot of payments due. Maybe we can make the rounds when Pres. Mike arrives. However, Christmas is just around the corner and I would like to greet all batchmates a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you all next year. Rolly

On the contrary - with apologies to the author of the birthday poem

It's birthday time again;
Another year has gone by,
"WE'RE OLDER THAN WE USED TO BE,
THE THOUGHT SHOULD EXHILERATE YOU AND ME."

"GETTING OLDER IS SO MUCH FUN,
DESPITE THE PAIN IN OUR BACK,
IT'S OKAY TO JUST WALK AND NOT RUN,"
And a pleasure to lie in the sack.

"YES, GETTING OLDER IS QUITE EXCITING,
AND GETTING OLD IS SUCH A BLESSING,"
So 'Happy Birthday', let's shout once more,
Hooray for getting older,
Happy Birthday, and many more!

Thanks so much, my friend(Luz) for the birthday poem, and Nel for the birthday greetings.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the December-born Batchmates! We're still alive and kicking- isn't it a reason to celebrate? Let's thank HIM for the gift of life!

Over The Hill Birthday

It’s birthday time again;
Another year has gone by.
You’re older than you used to be;
The thought could make you cry.

For getting older is not such fun,
When there’s hurting in your back,
And it’s agony if you have to run,
And a pleasure to lie in the sack.

Yes getting older is quite a bore,
But to not get old is worse.
So "Happy Birthday!" let’s shout once more,
Hooray for getting older!
Happy Birthday and many more.

Go Home Early

If this will work for the Japanese to increase their population, I wonder whether the opposite --- ask Filipinos to work more hours --- will serve to reduce the population explosion in the Philippines.

Japanese Bank gives staff early leave to make babies!

Thu, Nov 19 03:15 PM

London, Nov 19 (ANI): Japan's largest banking group, Mitsubishi UFJ (MUJF), is asking its employees to hit home early and have "family time" in a bid to reverse the nation's falling population and low birth rate.

The MUJF is among the handful of companies participating in the national campaign to increase Japan's population.

According to a female worker employed at the bank's Tokyo trading floor, the management felt that letting everyone off at 5.10pm rather than the usual 7pm would give time to couples to romance and reverse the population rates.

"The company is constantly telling us to do things, but I think this is the first time the corporate agenda has made its way to the bedroom," the Times quoted her as saying.

She added: "I'm not sure how many more babies will be conceived this week, but the bar next door to the headquarters should do well."

Japan's fertility rate - the average number of children born to each woman in the ages of 15 to 49 - of 1.3percent (2007 figures) is among the lowest in the world and almost a quarter of the country's population is aged over 65. (ANI)

Baliktanaw: Muling Alalahanin

Heto ang KAPAYAPAAN na alam natin noong wala pang KAUNLARAN

Si Nanay ay nasa bahay pag-uwi namin
galing sa paaralan;
Walang mga bakod at gate ang
magkakapit-bahay, kung meron, gumamela lang;

10 sentimos o diyes lang ang baon: singko sa
umaga, singko sa hapon;
Merong free ang mga patpat ng ice
drop: buko man o munggo.
Mataas ang paggalang sa mga guro at ang tawag sa
kanila ay Maestro/a:
Di binibili ang tubig, pwedeng
maki-inom sa di mo kakilala.

Malaking bagay na ang pumunta sa
ilog para mag-picnic, o kaya sa tumana;
Grabe na ang kaso pag napatawag ka sa
principal's office o kaya malaking kahihiyan kapag
bagsak ka sa exams;

mga gulong at de-sinkong pako para sa preno;
patining na pinitpit na tansan lang na may 2 butas
sa gitna para suotan ng sinulid (pwede pang
makipag-lagutan) ; sumpak, pilatok, boca-boca,
borador, atbp.

Di nakikialam ang mga matanda sa mga
laro ng mga bata: kasi laro nga iyon.
Maraming usong laro at maraming kasali:
laste, gagamba, turumpo, tatsing ng lata,
pera namin ay kaha ng Philip Morris, Malboro,
Champion (kahon-kahon yon!)
May dagta ang dulo ng tinting na hawak
mo para makahuli tutubi, nandadakma ka ng
palakang tetot, pero ingat ka sa palakang saging
dahil sa kulugo;

Butas na ang sakong ng Spartan mong
tsinelas - suot mo pa rin;
Namumugalgal ang pundiya ng kansolsilyo
mo kasi nakasalampak ka sa lupa.
Sa modernong buhay at sa lahat ng kasaganaan sa
high technology.. . di ba minsan nangarap ka
na rin... mas masaya noong araw!
Sana pwedeng maibalik...

Takot tayo ngayon sa buhay. Kasi maraming
napapatay, nakikidnap, maraming addict at
masasamang loob...
Noon takot lang tayo sa ating mga
magulang at mga lolo at lola. Pero ngayon, alam na
natin na mahal pala nila tayo kayat ayaw tayong mapahamak o mapariwara.. . Na uuna
silang nasasaktan pag pinapalo nila tayo...

Balik tayo sa nakaraan kahit saglit...

Bago magkaroon ng internet, computer, at
cellphone.
Noong wala pang mga drugs at malls.
Bago pa nauso ang counter strike at mga game
boys.

Tayo noon...

Tinutukoy ko ang:
harangngang taga o tumbang preso kapag maliwanag ang buwan;
Ang pagtatakip mo ng mata pero
nakasilip sa pagitan ng mga daliri pag
nanonood ka ng nakakatakot sa
"Mga Aninong Gumagalaw "

Unahan tayong sumagot sa Multiplication Table
na kabisado natin, kasi wala namang calculator.

Pag-akyat natin sa mga puno; pagkakabit
ng kulambo, lundagan sa kama ;
Pagtikwas o pagtitimba sa poso; pingga
ang pang-igib ng lalake at may dikin naman
ang ulo ng babae;

Inaasbaran ng mga suberbiyo;
Nginig na tayo pag lumabas na ang
yantok-mindoro o buntot-page.

araw?

Karera sa takbuhan hanggang maubos ang hininga;
pagtawa hanggang sumakit ang tiyan;
Meron pa bang himbabao, kulitis at
pongapong? O kaya ang lukaok, susuwi at
espada?

Susmaryosep ang nadidinig mo pag
nagpapaligo ng bata...
Estigo santo kapag nagmamano.
Mapagod sa kakalaro, minsan mapalo;
matakot sa "berdugo" at sa "kapre";
Tuwang-tuwa kami pag tinalo ang tinale
ni itay kasi may tinola!

Yung crush mo?
Pag recess: mamimili ka sa garapon ng
tinapay -alembong, taeng-kabayo o biscocho?
Pwede ring ang sukli ay kending Vicks
(meron pang libreng singsing) o kaya nougat o
karamel;
Kung gusto mo naman - pakumbo o kaya
kariba,
mas masaya kung inuyat;
Puriko ang mantika, at mauling na ang
mukha at ubos

kanin...

Halo-halo: yelo, asukal at gatas lang
ang sahog;

Sakang ang lakad mo at nakasaya ka kasi
bagong tuli ka; o naghahanap ka ng chalk kasi
tinagusan ang palda mo sa eskwelahan.
Lipstick mo ay papel de hapon;
Labaha ang gamit para sa white-side-wall
na gupit;
Naglululon ka ng banig pagkagising;
matigas na amirol ang mga punda at kumot; madumi
ang manggas ng damit mo kasi doon ka
nagpapahid ng sipon, di ba? Pwede rin sa
laylayan...
May mga program kapag Lunes sa
paaralan;
May pakiling kang dala kung Biyernes
kasi magi-isis ka ng desk.

Di ba masaya? Naalala mo pa ba?
Wala nang sasaya at gaganda pa sa
panahon na yon...
Masaya noon at masaya pa rin tayo
ngayon habang ina-alaala iyon...

Di ba noon...
Ang mga desisyon ay ginagawa sa awit na
"sino ba sa dalawang ito? "
Ito ba o ito?" Pag ayaw ang resulta di
ulitin: "sino ba sa dalawang ito? Ito ba o
ito?"...
Awit muna: Penpen de Sarapen, de
kutsilyo, de almasen. How how the carabao batuten...

Presidente ng klase ay ang pinakamagaling, hindi
ang pinaka-mayaman;
Masaya na tayo basta sama-sama kahit
hati-hati sa kokonti;
Nauubos ang oras natin sa
pagku-kwentuhan, may oras tayo sa isat-isa;
Naaasar ka kapag marami kang sunog sa
sungka; kapag buro ka sa pitik-bulag o matagal
ka ng taya sa holen.

Yung matatandang kapatid ang pinaka-ayaw natin
pero sila ang tinatawag natin pag
napapa-trouble tayo.
Di natutulog si Inay, nagbabantay pag
may trangkaso tayo; meron tayong skyflakes at

MATANDA ka na! he he he

To Warm Our Romantic Hearts

Couple married 61 years die day one apart

The only day an American couple spent apart in their marriage was a Monday, the day between their deaths.

Laura Presutto and husband Joseph, both 86, died one day apart this week after 61 years of marriage, according to reports from the United States.

The Cincinnati couple's daughter Donna Presutto said the bond between her parents was extraordinarily strong.

She said her mother was in declining health for months and may have held on out of a belief that her husband would be "right behind her" in death.

Laura's passing came on Sunday, reports the The Cincinnati Enquirer, just hours after doctors diagnosed her longtime mate with double pneumonia and told the family he was unlikely to live long.

Joseph died on Tuesday.

The couple met during World War II and were married in 1947.

"They have been inseparable for that entire time," Donna was quoted in their obituary.
How sweet is that?

Birthday Wishes to November Born Batchmates

A birthday can be seen as a serious or joyful time depending on one's age and one's attitude towards life. Another year has passed and we look back on failures and successes. We think about our goals for the future and reflect on the past year. These are all thoughts that may come up on a birthday, but the main thing is to use a birthday as an opportunity to celebrate life and be joyful for the chance to be with friends and family.

All the best for :

Annie Navarro Benjamin – November 8

Rolando San Jose - November 11

Belen Buenaventura Almazan - November 17

Alfredo Almazan - November 18

Anselmo Labrador - November 28

Francisco Herilla - November 30

one!

Girl to her boyfriend: One kiss and I'll be yours forever.
The guy replies: Thanks, for the early warning.

A man was sitting reading his papers when his wife hit him round the head with a frying pan.
What was that for? the man asked.
The wife replied, That was for that piece of paper with the name Jenny on it that I found in
your pants pocket.
The man then said, "When I was at the race last week , Jenny was the name of the horse I
bet on."
The wife apologized and went on with the housework.

Three days later the man was watching TV when the wife bashes him on the head with an
even bigger frying pan knocking him down. Upon regaining composure the man asked why
she had hit him again.
The wife replied, " Your horse phoned !"

2 long weekends in November (in the Philippines)

2 long weekends in November

MANILA - Two long weekends are set next month as President Arroyo declared non-working holidays for November.

The first is a three-day weekend from October 31 (Saturday) to November 2 (Monday).

November 1, All Saints' Day, and November 2, All Souls' Day, are special non-working holidays.

The second is a four-day weekend from November 27 (Friday) to November 30 (Monday).

November 27 and 28 have been declared non-working holidays in observance of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, held by Muslims after the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. This is based on Proclamation 1808 signed in April.

Meanwhile, November 30, a Monday, is a regular non-working holiday to commemorate Bonifacio Day.

On Wednesday, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita reminded the public of the holidays previously proclaimed by the President. -- with a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News

contribution to the relief efforts for the typhoon victims

As per telcon with Pres. Mike, we have contributed P15,000 to the Sagip Kapamilya program of the ABS-CBN Foundation. This is the most efficient way of donating as they have a very effective machinery. Likewise, we can't wait for our contributions to come in as time is of the essence. Any contributions that will be collected will then go to our funds to replenish what we have given.
We in RC Orion decided that we should help our provincemates so we distributed relief goods in Barangay Almacen, Hermosa which is always under water whenever it rains and during high tides. we still continue to participate in the relief efforts in our district though. Tomorrow, we will be going to Pangasinan for another relief operations.
I would like to thank our batchmates for their concern to our poor countrymen. Let's keep up the good work.
I would also like to remind everyone to submit logo designs for our souvenir t-shirts for our upcoming reunion. That way we will have a multitude of ideas.
Thanks and God bless. Rolly.

Women never listen...

A woman was out golfing one day when she hit the ball into the woods.

She went into the woods to look for it and found a frog in a trap.
The frog said to her, 'If you release me from this trap, I will grant you three wishes.'
The woman freed the frog, and the frog said, 'Thank you, but I failed to mention that there was a condition to your wishes.

Whatever you wish for, your husband will get ten times!'

The woman said, 'That's okay.'

For her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

The frog warned her, 'You do realize that this wish will also make
your husband the most handsome man in the world, an Adonis whom women will flock to'..

The woman replied, 'That's okay, because I will be the most beautiful
Woman and he will have eyes only for me.'

So, KAZAM-she's the most beautiful Woman in the world!

For her second wish, she wanted to be the richest woman in the world.

The frog said, 'That will make your husband the richest man in the
world. And he will be ten times richer than you..'

The woman said, 'That's okay, because what's mine is his and what's his is mine.'

So, KAZAM-she's the richest woman in the world!

The frog then inquired about her third wish, and she answered, 'I'd like a mild heart attack.'

Moral of the story: Women are clever. Don't mess with them.

Let them continue to think that way and just enjoy the show

GOD IS TRULY AMAZING

This is very interesting.

It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish.. All before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We're such slow learners...
God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body!
God's Pharmacy! Amazing!
A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... And YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.
A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.
Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.
A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.
Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.
Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.
Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).
Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.
Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.
Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries
Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.
Onions look like the body's cells.. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Birthday Blessings To October Born Batchmates

To:

AMORY TRAJANO - OCTOBER 3

RIZALINO BALUYOT - OCTOBER 9

PILAR VILLEGAS CUEVAS - OCTOBER 12

NELIA AMPARO - OCTOBER 15

RUBEN BALUYOT - OCTOBER 31

Instead of counting candles,
Or tallying the years,
Contemplate your blessings now,
As your birthday nears.
Consider special people
Who love you, and who care,
And others who’ve enriched your life
Just by being there.
Think about the memories
Passing years can never mar,
Experiences great and small
That have made you who you are.
Another year is a happy gift,
So cut your cake, and say,
"Instead of counting birthdays,
count your blessings every day!"

After Charice, Arnel Pineda invades 'Oprah'

After Charice, Arnel Pineda invades 'Oprah'

MANILA – After Charice, it was Arnel Pineda’s turn to impress Oprah Winfrey, one of the world’s most powerful women today.

Pineda and the rest of the members of the American rock band “Journey” recently guested on Oprah to promote the group’s latest album, “Revelation.”

During the show, Journey's Filipino front man could not believe that he was being interviewed by no less than Winfrey herself.

"I'm facing you (Winfrey) right now. You are [one of the] biggest [names] in show business and I'm facing you. It's like… I'm not allowed to be here but I'm here. And I thank God for that," he said.

The show featured Pineda’s journey “from total obscurity to recapturing the voice of one of the greatest bands of our time."

Pineda’s rags-to-riches story has inspired many people around the world. His life story will be made into a film titled "Don't Stop Believing: Every Man's Journey." The biopic will hit the big screen next year.

The Filipino singer was discovered on YouTube by Journey’s guitarist Neal Schon. Jonathan Cain (keyboard), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Ross Valory (bass) were equally impressed when they first watched him on YouTube performing Journey’s “Faithfully.”

Cain said: "Neal contacted us. I checked the YouTube video just like he said. And there he was singing. And I said, 'The guy got great pipes, does he speak English?’ And, ‘How are we going to get him to the stage to check him out?'" Cain said.

Valory said he had “goosebumps surplus” when he first heard Pineda sing.

Castronovo was also blown away by Pineda’s voice. “It was frightening just to hear that voice come out from that little guy. We couldn't believe it. It’s just so strong. And the best part about it was just how humble the man was, how humble human being, beautiful heart."

For Pineda, being part of Journey still feels like a dream.

"I've seen enough pain and poverty in the Philippines. I've never been that big. All I wanted was to be able to get out of it -- the pain and the poverty - and live decently everyday," he said.

He said touring around the world with his band mates is “amazing, unbelievable and fantastic.” “All the superlative words that you can utter.”

He admitted that he felt the pressure when the band played in the Philippines early this year. “There was a big responsibility and thank God I pulled it off.”

And now that he is making lots of money, Pineda said he bought a home for his family and set up his own foundation to help poor Filipinos.

Journey's Manila concert is now available on DVD in the United States.

US GIs Wonder , Filipinos Still Smiling

By Beverly T. Natividad
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 05:06:00 10/03/2009

MANILA, Philippines – A team of American soldiers got a first-hand look at the devastation wrought by tropical storm “Ondoy” – and ended up wondering how Filipinos could still smile and give them “high-fives” amid a terrible calamity.

At least 27 members of the 3rd US Marine Expeditionary Force, composed of doctors, nurses, medical aides and a chaplain, the other day conducted a medical and dental mission at Nangka Elementary School, which sheltered thousands displaced by the massive floods in Marikina City.

“We’ve seen things here [in terms of the destruction] that we haven’t seen before. This is really the least we can do. We wish we could stay longer,” said Lt. Commander Todd Endicott, the mission’s leader.

Endicott also shared one interesting observation: “We all wonder how
[Filipinos] keep smiling through all this.”

“Americans probably wouldn’t handle this as well. Here, people are smiling, saying ‘Hi’ to us, giving us high-fives. This is a pretty miserable situation, how people keep smiling, I don’t know. It’s probably a testament to the culture,” Endicott said.

Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Brawner Jr., AFP spokesman, said the US mission was the first in a series that the group would conduct in the next few days in Eastern Metro Manila, one of the areas hit hardest by storm.

Wading through mud

Wading through the mud, the GIs and their counterparts from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also distributed medicines and clothes.

Hunched in small chairs meant for schoolchildren, US troopers made do with the few tables and chairs available.

They treated mostly the wounded – those who fled the floods barefoot amid the debris – as well as evacuees suffering from colds and cough.

American troopers who took part in the mission were supposed to undergo training north of the country, Endicott said, “but we were told that there’s flooding, destruction and displaced people here so we sprang into action.”

To help clean up

Two more US military units – 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, both stationed in Okinawa, Japan – are expected to ship heavy equipment to help in the cleanup of the disaster areas in the next few days.

These would include a bulldozer, five cargo trucks, five heavy transport vehicles and two heavy-lift helicopters.

typhoon pepeng

Thank God that Pepeng will not materialize into a category 5 and changed direction. We will know for sure by tonight where it will make landfall but the forecast is the northern part of Cagayan. The rains here is not so significant but a lot of things can happen till the typhoon leaves the Philippines. Right now I'm up to my gills in relief operations via Rotary. We are focusing our efforts in our district, particularly Botolan which hasn't recovered yet from Labuyo and Undoy, and arayat which was hit by a massive landslide. We are currently poised to deliver relief goods ther again today or tomorrow.
We are very lucky here in Bataan as the effects of the Undoy and Pepeng are very minimal. I appreciate the concerns of our batchmates and anybody is welcome to help. Our people really needs help, some , particularly those who are still undere floodwaters, who may not even have Christmas.

On a lighter side, I would like to solicit ideas on the logo for our Reunion T shirt. The logo will be printed on the left breast of the t shirt, so please send your designs via this blogsite. see you in January 2010.

(UPDATE) 'Pepeng could be super-typhoon'

(UPDATE 3) 'Pepeng' nears supertyphoon status

Major dams to release water for buffer storage

MANILA - Weather bureau PAGASA on Thursday said typhoon Pepeng (international codename Parma) is forecast to bring more rains and very strong winds in Northern Luzon including Metro Manila once it makes landfall Saturday afternoon.

"There is a big possibility that it will become a supertyphoon. This is a very strong storm, packing winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 210 kph. Most likely it will make landfall in the afternoon of Saturday. That is when it is most critical," Nathaniel Cruz, PAGASA director for operations, said in a press briefing.

Cruz said Pepeng is much stronger than last Saturday's tropical storm Ondoy (international codename Ketsana), which brought record amounts of rainfall and triggered the worst flooding in Metro Manila in 40 years.

"In terms of wind intensity, Ondoy was only half of the strength of Pepeng. When it made landfall, Ondoy only had winds of 85 kph while Pepeng is 175 kph. However, we cannot really compare the two because it was the rain that was really destructive about Ondoy," he said.

He added: "Our major concern with Pepeng is the disastrous winds - 175 kph to 210 kph. We expect typhoon Pepeng to intensify further as it moves towards northern Luzon."

He said the weather bureau will give a forecast on the typhoon's estimated rainfall intensity before it makes landfall.

As of 10 a.m., the new typhoon was sighted 520 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar and is moving 24 kilometers per hour in the general direction of Northern Luzon and the Taiwan area.

Cruz said the typhoon is forecast to make landfall over Aurora-Isabela by Saturday morning. It said the typhoon will bring occasional rains over the eastern section of Luzon and Visayas and more frequent rains in Samar and Bicol Thursday afternoon.

Storm Signal no.1 remains hoisted in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes, he added.

Similar to 'Reming'

Cruz also likened typhoon Pepeng to super-typhoon Reming (international codename Durian), which killed at least 734 people in the country in 2006.

"This could be like Reming. We are not just talking here about Metro Manila. We are talking of the entire Luzon area where there is probability of devastation in terms of flooding...and wind," he said.

Dr. Susan Espinueva, assistant weather services chief of the Hydro Metrological Division of PAGASA, said major dams in Northern Luzon will be releasing water today until Friday before Pepeng hits.

"All major dams in Northen Luzon wll be releasing water to lower the water level so that when the storm hits, there will be a buffer of storage capacity in our dams and the spillover will not be as severe,' she said.

The government has started preparing more evacuation centers as it anticipates more people to be displaced by the new storm.

Disaster officials fear more rains spawned by the typhoon could trigger another massive flood as streets and drainage systems remain clogged from the tons of debris left by the previous deluge caused by tropical storm Ondoy (international codename Ketsana).

As of 6 a.m., the National Disaster Coordinating Council said more than half a million families of 2.50 million individuals have been affected by Ondoy in 11 regions, including Metro Manila and the Calabarzon area in southern Luzon.

It said that a total of 686,699 people are now staying in 726 evacuation centers. It said Ondoy’s death toll has reached 277 and 42 were still missing.

The storm, which also devastated Vietnam and Cambodia, damaged crops and infrastructure worth at least P4.80 billion.

Behind the Smiles

Typhoon Ondoy made landfall in the eastern coast of the northern Philippines on Saturday, bringing rains that caused widespread flooding in many parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila which was hardly hit .
I know that a lot of people are still shocked by the events of the past days. Typhoon Ondoy has been the most destructive catastrophe that had hit the Philippines. Now is the time for all of us to unite and open our hearts to the cries of help from our "kababayans" As suggested by Josie, Batch '63 can make a difference by helping out the victims of the flood.

For the information of our batch mates Lagrimas and Julie's happy stance and smiles in the pictures I posted yesterday are cover-ups for the silent grieving they are experiencing because some of their close kins were affected by the wrath of Ondoy. The house of Julie's brother in Vista Verde, Cainta was submerged in flood waters and everything in the house were damaged . Lagrimas was worrying because her niece who resides in Cainta cannot be reached by phone for almost two days. Later they were informed that she is okay but everything in her rented house were also destroyed by flood waters.

Maybe our other batchmates have their own stories to tell about this recent happening...it is really heartbreaking to see our kababayan suffering but in the worst of time like this we see how resilient Filipinos are.

ONDOY and JRI Batch 1963

We were in Austin, Texas, when we learned about the devastation brought about by ONDOY to our kababayans in Luzon, particularly in some areas of Metro Manila.

OUR BATCH CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The time to make the first move to help is NOW.

I learned from our experience during the 'deluge'in Ormoc City, that flood victims are in dire and immediate need of salt, matches. candles, clothes,slippers and water - before anything else. Cooked food, like arroz caldo, champorado and sinaing are most welcome. The canned sardines given at NDCC centers are enough for ulam for a few days.

Rollie, with his Rotarian spirit and experience(not to mention his charisma) can take the lead.

On the other hand, our lifetime president, MIKE, will be the leader of those who are presently out of the country.

PLEASE DON'T HESITATE WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS, COMMENTS, AND YES-
YOUR DONATIONS TO THIS WORTHY CAUSE.

Posing While Posting

We were at Lagrimas place ,this rainy Monday afternoon. There were two reasons why we were there, one is to teach Lagrimas how to post in our blog and to have lunch with her. Ang nangyari natagalan sa turuan, wala namang natutuhan kasi mas interesado siya mag photo shoot. Just look at the pictures taken by her daughter,April,di naman nakikinig,may ka phone pal pa. Nelia, sorry daw kasi di siya makakapag post,at suko na ako sa pagtuturo. At napakaselan pa pinag- alcohol pa ako bago pinahawakan ang laptop niya kasi kumain muna kami ng lansones.
But in fairness masarap naman ang iniluto niyang lunch sa amin,Filipino chopsuey and porkchops. It is an afternoon to remember!!

Mental Test

During a visit to the mental hospital, I asked the Director, 'How do you
determine whether or not a patient should be admitted to the hospital?'

'Well,' said the Director, 'we fill up the bathtub with water, then give
a teaspoon, teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him to empty
the bathtub.'

'Oh, I understand,' I said. A normal person would use
the bucket because it is bigger than the teaspoon or the teacup.'

'No' said the dircctor. 'A normal person would pull the drain plug.

Well....do you want a bed near the window?'

A MESSAGE BY GEORGE CARLIN

I would like to share this article I very recently came accross, with you, my dear batchmates...
I think this is a masterpiece . If you have not read it yet, take time to read it now... Then read it again.

George Carlin died July 2008. He was a comedian of the 70's and 80's. Isn't it so amazing for a comedian like him to write something so very eloquent .. and so very appropriate .
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways but narrower viewpoints . We spend more, but have less , we buy more but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families , more conveniences but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly , laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late , get up too tired , read too little, watch tv too much and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced on values. We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often. We've learned to make a living but not life. We've added years to life,but not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things but not better things.
We've cleared up the air, but polluted the soil. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character , steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of large incomes but more divorce, fancier houses but broken homes. These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers , throwaway morality, one nightstands, overweight bodies and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is too much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you , a time when you can choose either to share this insight or just hit delete...

There is much truism in what he said . Got to share this with whoever cares to read.
Warm regards to you fellas.

DAILY PRAYER - SEPTEMBER 22, 2009

We often wish, Lord, that life were simple. So many people find themselves greedy for the latest and greatest gadgets - flat screen TVs, fancy cars, huge homes - that they get in over their heads with credit card debts and bills. Help us to let go of our need for such material possessions and to appreciate a simple life, enjoying the company of family and friends while living for You. Amen.

Advance Economics

It is the month of August, on the shores of the Black Sea. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town.He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter,
and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to choose one.The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.
The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute that in these hard times, gave her "services" on credit.The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there.

The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything. At that moment, the tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 Euro note, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.....

And that, batchmates, is how the United States and the Australian governments are doing business today.

The Best Diet for Life

This topic was published in the Pheladelphia Inquirer by Dr. Ranit Mishori.

The MEDITERRANEAN diet is among the most highly recommended eating plans. But which of its components brings the biggest benefits? In a recent study in the British Medical Journal, researchers tracked 23,000 adults in Greece. They found that eating a lot vegetables, fruits, nuts, and legumes(like beans and peas) had the greatest impact on increasing longevity. Also associated with a longer lifespan: consuming moderate amounts of alcohol and less meat. Surprisingly, a high intake of cereals and seafood had little to no positive effect.

In related researh, a study in the Archives of Neurology showed that the Mediterranean diet reduced people's risk of experiencing dementia or of its progressing. In a group of adults with no dementia symptoms at the study's start, those who most closely adhered to the Mediterranean diet had 28% lower risk of developing cognitive impairment. In a group that already had impairment, the people who best followed the plan had a 48% lower risk of getting full-blown Alzheimer's disease.

THANK YOU

The past week has been a time of great distress for our family and the thought that those we used to look up to ( Inang, Tata, Tiya, Ingkong) are no longer around even just be able to feel their comforting presence and courage made it more so. We, the siblings all adult as we are still have that inner child that longing for 'someone' to tell us not to worry , it's ok , everything will be fine.
But God is so good , truly magnificent, wonderfully awesome! He has never left us throughout
the ordeal. Sometimes He works in mysterious ways that we humans can't fathom but it is always what He sees best and what we really need.
To those who have read the blog posted by Azon a few days ago re my sister Pricilla's open heart surgery , the mild stroke following which almost made recovery difficult , I know you were with us. Many responded and it was a great comfort. What can my family and I say, save ,A Big Big Thank You....Thank you ... and a lot more ...Prayers avail much and miracles do happen even today.
Sister Priscilla is on her road to complete recovery. She's out of the Intensive Care Unit sans the iv's, no blood clot, with great presence of mind etc.... A bit of theraphy here and there will take care of the bits and pieces that usually come with a major surgery like that.

A JRI 63 Reunion of Three

Niagara Falls is one great wonder of nature. Its grandeur and amazing beauty captivate millions of people from around the world every year. Each minute, 6 million gallons of water cascades down from its height of 173 meters and produces thundering sounds that makes one shiver from its power. The falls breaks down H2O into hydrogen and oxygen and offers pure air for the faint of lungs. The resulting atmosphere of fresh mist cools down the blistering summer sun. That would be enough to inspire awe from anyone who comes near this magnificient creation.

One of our batchmates among the many has been lured into this
fascinating site, that one daythis September 2009, she just unannouncedly barged into Toronto
and made her equally wondrous presence.

Of course, Lourdes and I were very willing hosts to this once bikini beauty, and we started a sort of reunion of three in this part of the world.

Together with my OAO Cecile, we drove our tourist around and gladly showed her the sights and the sounds of Niagara and Toronto. It was a non-stop story-
telling and the usual high school anecdotes were just hilarious.

Then there was the eating which has
become our Filipino tradition of entertaining our guests. How about China buffet?

I would like to impress on you batchmates that we feel just like members of a cherished JRI family. As Pilar said she felt like hugging every batchmate she meets after such a loooong time!

It was indeed a great opportunity to renew our friendships when we could pick up where we left off.

You may watch the other pictures in my multiply site.
