Ernie, let me try, tell me if i'm wrong. We have been hearing about faith since the beginning of time.In my understanding faith is to believe in something that we do not see or something that we do not know exists. One good example was during the resurrection, when St. Thomas have to touch the side of Jesus which have been pierced by a lance. All of the apostles believed that Jesus resurrected except him. Then Jesus told him to have faith and not to be an unbeliever, but a believer.
Another example is when we say to other people like our friends or family that we have faith in them even though we really don't know if the person is capable of doing the work.In our mind we believe that the person can do it.
I hope this little explanation and example answered your question.
Does anybody else have a different understanding of what faith is?Please share it with us.

Ernie, you are right. In tagalog it means paniniwala. What I understand for the meaning of faith is our belief in God, the existence of God, that God is good all the time, that God is always there for us. To have faith in God is to accept God's will.

Batchmates please share your explanation of the meaning of Faith.

This is faith -- believing that God does exist, that He loves us and wants to have a relationship with us through His Son, Jesus, and that we simply call out His name at times in our lives when the road ahead seems uncertain; when the answers we desperately seek are elusive.

Our Faith must be simple and pure, like a child's.

Hebrews 11 of the New Testament is often called the 'faith chapter'. It lists
heroes and heroines of faith. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"(Heb 11:1)

FAITH is an assurance, total reliance, a confidence, a total surrender , absence of fears , doubts, anxieties and worries.
"Faith comes by hearing , and hearing the word of God" (Romans 10:17)
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.
When we read God's promises in the Bible and believe that God is able to perform what He has promised and we constantly and deligently draw close to Him in prayers and seek to understand and fulfill His will , commands and statutes then that's living faith.

If you find something in God's teachings that may cause you to lose favor with others, will you pull back, disregard it and consequently disobey? saying perhaps---"it doesn't make any difference" - then you're dwelling in an empty faith.

True faith compels us to commit totally our lives to Him through Jesus and so be willing to do what God says ... NO MATTER WHAT
