When Are You Old?

'OLD' IS WHEN....
Your sweetie says, 'Let's go upstairs and make love,' and you answer, 'Pick one; I can't do both!'

'OLD' IS WHEN...
Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes and you're barefoot

'OLD' IS WHEN...
Going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.

'OLD' IS WHEN....
You don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go along.

'OLD' IS WHEN...
You are cautioned to slow down by the doctor instead of by the police .

'OLD' IS WHEN...
'Getting a little action' means you don't need to take a laxative today.

'OLD' IS WHEN....
'Getting lucky' means you find your car in the parking lot..

'OLD' IS WHEN....
An 'all nighter' means not getting up to use the bathroom.

'OLD' IS WHEN....
You're not sure if these are facts or jokes.

Oh, Lucille,

This post brought tears to my eyes. It is utterly funny, it is absolutely true and it hurts.

"Old" sucks, no matter how brilliant the spin on the contrary.

"Old" is not only a state of mind as some glass-half-full adherents say. The reality is "old" means just that. Deny it as much as we dare, but our creaky bones, concertina-like skin, failing senses and leaking plumbing systems, almost non-existent libido and fading memory tell the hard truth. The mirror does not lie. Our photos confirm our most morbid suspicion of our irreversible physical decline.

The soonest we accept the fact, the easier and more meaningful it gets to fully enjoy the "now" knowing full well that we have less time than when the batch dispersed in all directions following our graduation.

Should we then rather wallow in despair? Not at all. We have had the most remarkable past, and now have the most precious present. Our batch have discovered a much warmer, closer, more intimate, joyous relationship with one another than we ever thought possible. We have had the fun part of growing up together, but now we have the priceless joy of sharing our much enriched lives, whatever is left of it.

"Old" as in gold. As in bold. As in hold. Let us in this state of being "old" hold together the gold of our kinship. Long may the batch live!

(Still in tears as I post this comment.)

Youth is beautiful,we can all agree and aging, the most natural process in the world has become taboo. But as what you have said in our batch getting older in years made all of us closer to one another.
The upsides of getting old had made wonders to us...aging became invisible in most of our gatherings, conversations and outlook. It is as if we were born just 20 years ago.So it's no wonder we are getting old gracefully, enjoying more time with our family,we have more time for our hobbies, the latest of which is being Glued to FACEBOOK like a teenager and we get more respect and feel less stress, more financial security, more time to travel and do volunteer work.
Dry your tears Cora and rejoice because our "golden" years is something we must be proud of as you have mentioned !

Lucille as I read your post and Cora's comment I am also in tears. We cannot always stay young in body and mind. Really true that our batch are becoming closer to one another as one big family. Let us thank God for this great blessing. Still we have to pray to continue to stay healthy in mind and body. Regards.

There is a song titled "Why Cry" and I quote the first few lyrics "I See A Face In The Mirror That I Just Don't Like, But I Gotta Keep Tellin' Myself That Its Alright, Cuz Now Im Older, Theres No Sense In Me Crying..."
Getting old is indeed a natural process. Many have tried to arrest it and find the elixir to aging. One even sold his soul to the devil to attain eternal youth and beauty. Remember Dorian Gray?
Let's be happy where we are now and accept that we are in this bandwagon now.
We may not like what we see in the mirror, but believe that we have become intrinsically beautiful. We have gone through our own life's exploration, and trod the learning curve. Now I see men and women of inconceivable wisdom, incredible knowledge, and deep sense of humor.
Accept what we have become and live life to the fullest!
No tears, please!
