DAILY PRAYER

DEAR GOD, HELP ME TO RECOGNIZE THE CRIES FOR HELP FROM MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS AND STRANGERS. GIVE ME THE SENSITIVITY TO HEAR THE PAIN AND SEE THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS. AND GIVE ME THE STRENGTH TO REACH OUT TO THOSE WHO ARE HURTING AND IN NEED. AMEN.

An Unpleasant News about the Sister of Pres. Mike

I got an email from Nelia late this afternoon. She shared that she got a phone call from our President, Mike Cruz who shared about his sister in Navotas whose house was among the 200 houses gutted by fire this week. Nilda is among our batch in Orion Elementary School. The family of Nilda was not able to save anything .

This blog is launching an appeal on behalf of Mike's sister and her family. Your much vaunted generosity and love can help ease the pain and the hardships that one of our extended family now suffers. Let us pull together. Please. Your donations may be sent to Lucille (Philippines), to Mike (USA) or to me (Australia). All suggestions on how else we can help are most welcome. CR

Update 24 July 2010

On behalf of Mike and his family, heartfelt thanks to those who have so far responded to our appeal. Special thanks to Pilar for her selfless efforts to contact our US based batchmates. And to those who have sent in or pledged their donations, thank you all so much. We realise that in this economically challenged time it is a big big ask to share what little we may have but this - in foul weather- is when true friendship, mateship, love is tested.

"I was there at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel yesterday..."

You won't believe this, I'm here in Odessa, TX, but "I was there at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel B, two hours before the interment of Tia Agre." Oh no,not physically, but through the magic of cyberspace, I watched everything that was happening from about 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. -Philippine time. Was I lucky! I even saw my mother (Inay) there. She was wearing a light blue blouse with white collar. She sat at the last pew. How I wished that she took the front seats, so I can have a good view of her.

I called up Alex Mercado in Colorado; so he guided me on how to use the E-Lamay electronic viewing of their chapel. First, go to: www.evergreenorion.com. Then, click either Chapel A or B - depends on which chapel is being used. The user name is: evergreen. The password is: memorial. If you are using Mozilla Firefox-click Java. otherwise-click: Active X. That simple.

At least, I felt that I was there with my dearest kumare- Mareng Perlita, to share her grief. I saw all her siblings and their families, and some of our kababayans, too.

One thing good, however, is it seems that nobody was aware of the webcams there, so everything was very normal , and there were no scrambling for the front seats.
